DAVID Training Course

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and the State of Alabama have partnered to create DAVID, the Dashboard for Alabamians to Visualize Income Determination. DAVID is the first solution of its kind in the country, and it is designed to help people navigate the loss of public assistance as they move along a career pathway.

Session One – July 22, 2021 – 10:00 a.m.

In session 1, we introduce benefits cliffs, or the loss of public benefits an individual or family might experience when their income increases above an eligibility threshold. We will review foundational information about the charts found in DAVID. We will identify elements of a successful workforce development system and explain how career pathways work. We will also discuss the benefits that are available to low- and moderate-income households, including tax credits and public assistance programs, and emphasizes the importance of knowing that career advances can lead to the loss of these benefits.

Using typical client scenarios, module 2 shows how to read the charts within the tabs, helping the user to determine if the selected occupation will meet the client’s self-sufficiency target and what benefits cliffs they should anticipate as they advance in their chosen career.

DAVID Planner Tool

The CLIFF Planner is a career path planner and budgeting tool that shows how public assistance losses intersect with local in-demand career paths. The planner allows the user to compare career choices and provide individualized results to a greater extent than with the CLIFF Dashboard. It also allows the user to create a budget to mitigate financial barriers to career advancement.

This tool is still early in development and there will be frequent updates and changes.
